Dr. Brian Frederick, associate professor of political science, has long studied the role of women in our political system and recently he addressed the topic as part of BSU’s Center for Legislative Studies Distinguished Speaker Series.

Administrator publishes paper on best practices in undergraduate research

An article written by Dr. Jenny Shanahan, director of Undergraduate Research, has been accepted for publication in the CUR Quarterly, which is published by the Council on Undergraduate Research.

The article, “Research-Informed Practice, Practice-Informed Research: The Integral Role of Undergraduate Research in Professional Disciplines” will appear in the journal’s summer issue.

Nothing speaks to the success of the Athletic Training Program like, well, success.

Earlier this month, Professor Suanne Maurer-Starks, director of the program, attended a regional meeting for athletic trainers in Philadelphia. There, she met three alumni of the program who are serving as presidents or president-elect of their respective state athletic trainer’s association.

Bridgewater State University hosted its 29th annual Martin Luther King Day breakfast, where young people from Brockton, Taunton, Boston and New Bedford came together in Flynn Dinning Hall to honor the late Civil Rights leader. 

President Dana Mohler-Faria welcomed those in attendance.

Nearly 100 local youngsters, along with members of the BSU community and the public at large attended the 29th annual Martin Luther King Day Breakfast. The young people, from Brockton, Taunton, Boston and New Bedford, came together in Flynn Dinning Hall to honor the Civil Rights leader.

Afterward, the students headed over to the Rondileau Campus Center to work on a variety of service projects.

Sophomore Adam Costa has been selected to the National Collegiate Honors Council board of directors, where he will help shape the organization’s efforts in supporting institutions and individuals in developing, implementing, and expanding Honors education across the U.S.

“I am happy that I will be representing the Honors Program on the national level, and I think this will lead to many good things for our program down the road,” the Rochester resident said.

Kevin DosSantos, a student from Canton High School in Connecticut, was in his element, as he was wheeling and dealing on the mock trading floor.

“I love the chaos,” he said.

The young man spoke during a quiet moment at the International Economic Summit, an all-day event for high and middle school students that was held at Patriot Place in Foxboro, and co-organized by Bridgewater State University’s Center for Economic Education.

Julie White-Patel, ’06, was featured on the Ellen show, where host Ellen DeGeneres highlighted the Quincy teacher’s generosity and dedication to her students.

In a video made at the Francis W. Parker Elementary School where she teaches first grade, Ms. White-Patel recounted how she spends her own money to equip her students with the instructional materials they need. When seated in studio with the host, Ms. White-Patel was in for a surprise or two.
