The 2012 Undergraduate Review
has arrived!

Read the excellent work of 24 BSU students here.

The ATP Summer Research Program
is in full swing, with our largest group of student-researchers ever! Forty-nine students, including three funded by BSU's Center for Sustainability and four funded by NASA's Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium, are conducting research in a range of fields. These outstanding BSU students have earned the honor, and the hard work, of a fully funded, ten-week research experience. Each of them is mentored one-on-one by a faculty member with expertise in the field. Congratulations to all 49 of you and the best of luck for a successful summer of research!

All 49 students will present the results of their research at the ATP Summer Symposium on Wednesday, August 1, 8:30-4:00 in Moakley. The campus community is welcome to attend!

Featured ATP Researcher: Helder Almeida

As President of BSU's Cape Verdean Student Association, Public Relations Chair for Men Integrated in Brotherhood, Mentor for L.I.N.K.S. and FAM for Change, and Math Instructor for New Bedford Youthbuild, Helder Almeida exemplifies student leadership. Now Helder is spending his summer conducting research into a phenomenon not only of personal interest, but also of great import to BSU and every university in the country: the success rates and experiences of students of color who graduate from Bridgewater State University. Helder will be interviewing students of color still attending BSU as well as successful alumni, to try to determine patterns of experiences that have helped them thrive in a majority-White institution. Are there particular activities and practices in which they engaged that have contributed to their success? How did the support of peers and mentors factor in to their achievement? Helder's findings will be shared with BSU's New Student Orientation planning team, and the whole campus community, in order to develop information and programming aimed at improving the campus experience and boosting the achievement of students of color, especially.
