  1. Every student is responsible for securing a current U.S. passport prior to departure.
  2. Students who are admitted into the program will be sent a reading list for their tutorial class. It is essential that they read all of this material before coming to Oxford as the course work in the program will be intensive.
  3. Your program fee includes international health insurance.
  4. Summer in England tends to be cooler and damper than in the United States, so students should plan their wardrobes accordingly.

The Directors of the Program

Executive Coordinators

William S. Smith (B.A., Appalachian State University; Ph.D., Duquesne University) is the Dean for the School of Graduate Studies at Bridgewater State College and part time professor of English. Dr. Smith has studied at Exeter College, Oxford, and at the University of London. His area of specialization is romantic poetry, and he has published articles on English poetry in The Phenomenological Inquiry, The History of European Ideas, and Analecta Husserliana: The Yearbook of Phenomenological Studies.

Faculty Associates

Jadwiga S. Smith (M.A,  Jagiellonian University, Ph.D. Duquesne University) is a professor of English at Bridgewater State College. Her areas of specialization are literary theory and drama. Dr. Smith has published extensively on these fields.

Karen Brackman (B.A., Bridgewater State College;M.Ed.,Harvard University) is an Adjunct Professor of English at Bridgewater State College and a Language Arts teacher at Westwood High School. Professor Brackman has been a coordinator for the Bridgewater-at-Oxford Program and has accompanied student groups over the past several years. Her principal literary interests are in African American Studies, and she develops workshops for teaching multicultural literature in the diverse classroom.
