Visit www.bridgew.edu/infobear to view course offerings with up-to-date information concerning course openings. Once you have enrolled for classes at BSC, you may use InfoBear to confirm your up-to-theminute course schedule, including meeting days, times and rooms; view grades, billing information and more. By using your confidential PIN, you and only you will have access to your records. For all of your informational needs, the Web is a convenient way to communicate.
Refer to the Bridgewater State College Undergraduate/ Graduate Catalog or the BSC Web site (www.bridgew. edu/Catalog) for listings of all undergraduate and graduate degree programs and requirements.
NOTE: Students who are only able to enroll in classes 4 pm or after should consult the appropriate department chairperson for information about the availability of evening sections of courses required in a specific major, concentration and/or minor.
Students should immediately begin to make appointments with their advisers to develop their course schedule. Since many departments set aside specific days and times for registration advisement, you should contact your major department well in advance of registration for an appointment. Waiting until the last minute may mean you will not be able to meet with your adviser before your scheduled preregistration date. First-semester freshmen have been assigned an adviser through the Academic Achievement Center. Most other degree-seeking undergraduate students have been assigned an adviser through their major department.
Each semester, all degree-seeking undergraduate students must obtain adviser approval before they may register. Double majors are required to meet with and obtain the signatures of both major advisers on their Registration/Academic Advising Form. Students must bring a Registration/Academic Advising Form to their advising appointment; as well as a printout of the degree audit. The Registration/ Academic Advising Form is located in the back of this course schedule and is available online at www. bridgew.edu/registrar in the forms section.
All students should be sure to list their course selections, with alternate
choices, and obtain their adviser’s signature on the form. NOTE:
Faculty advisers must enter an adviser approval code on the Banner Student System
to clear each advisee for Web registration. Once adviser approval
is obtained, students may register via the Web or in person.
Please Note: In general, faculty advisers are not available during the semester break or summer. Because advising is required prior to registration, it is strongly recommended that you obtain adviser approval before the semester break to avoid delays in registering for classes.
Advising prior to registration is optional for graduate students. All degree-seeking graduate students have been assigned an adviser through the School of Graduate Studies. If you do not know which adviser has been assigned to you, you may call that office at 508.531.1300. Contact your adviser directly for an appointment if you would like assistance prior to registering for courses.
Non-degree graduate students should contact the School of Graduate Studies at 508.531.1300 if they need advice on course selection.
Non-degree undergraduate students should call the Academic Achievement Center at 508.531.1214 for an advising appointment if assistance is needed.
Graduate certificate program students should contact the School of Graduate
Studies for advice on course selection at 508.531.1323.
Undergraduate certificate program students should contact the Office of Continuing
and Distance Education at 508.531.2788.
NOTE: Non-degree and certificate students do not need adviser approval prior to registration.
Students must have the necessary prerequisite for each course. Prerequisites may be found in the BSC catalog or at www.bridgew.edu/InfoBear, click on Available Course Sections, click on highlighted course link. All prerequisites are enforced at the time of registration. Prerequisite courses taken at institutions other than Bridgewater State College must be documented (transcript or grade report and, in some cases, course description) prior to registration.
Students who wish to enroll in a course without the prerequisite(s) must obtain approval on a Prerequisite Override form prior to registering for the course. The form must be signed by the chairperson of the department through which the course is offered and, in some cases, the instructor of the course. Prerequisite Override forms may be obtained on the Registrar's Web site, in any of the academic department offices or in the Registrar’s Office, Room 003, Boyden Hall.
Students seeking an override of professional education prerequisites for courses
taught through the School of Education and Allied Studies must complete the
form entitled Request for a Student to Take an Upper Level Professional
Education Course without Formal Program Admission and obtain all required
signatures. These professional education forms are available in all major departments
within the School of Education and Allied Studies or in the Registrar’s
Office, Room 003, Boyden Hall.
Student teachers and junior professional students will follow the registration process described below. All other students should follow the registration guidelines on the next page.
Student Teachers: The Office of Licensure and Field Experience will register degree-seeking students for student teaching. To qualify, students must have been accepted and remain in good standing in a professional education program; and have been approved for student teaching by the deadline and according to the criteria, instructions and registration procedures posted by the School of Education and Allied Studies on its Web site www.bridgew.edu/soed.
Junior Professional Education Students: Students registering for the Elementary and Early Childhood Education Junior Professional Semester register at the Office of Elementary and Early Childhood Education in Hart Hall during preregistration. They will not register for their classes in the Registrar’s Office or via the Web.
To enroll in a directed study, internship, practicum or research course, an
appropriate departmental application form must be completed and received by
the Registrar’s Office by the close of the drop/add period. Contact your
major department for further information.
Important Reminder to all Students — Students may
not register for the next semester until all outstanding financial obligations
to the college have been met and missing health records have been submitted.
