 Night
Lights 1989
Robert A. Daniel
Watercolor on 300 Lb. Cold Press paper 22" x 36"
Ground light patterns (viewed from a night flight) were made by dribbled rubber
cement which was allowed to dry. Then they were covered with several washes. When these
dried, the rubber cement was removed and the resulting white patterns were painted with
watercolors having little or no dilution.
Artitsts Statement
I am an artist who produces representational, abstract and non-objective works. I am
primarily concerned with trying to create compositionally dynamic relationships between
the formal elements of art such as lines, colors, values, etc., that make up any
given work. Subject matter, when there is any, is secondary to these relationships, though
not irrelevant. The work is a reflection of my interests in a variety of approaches to the handling of
both media and compositional challenges. This is a portrait of the artist as a
work in progress.
Robert Daniel is Emeritus Professor of Education.
