GLAD 101 and GLAD 201

Purpose:

The Greek Leadership And Development Programs, GLAD 101 and GLAD 201, were developed to assist both emerging leaders and more seasoned members of the BSC Greek system in their development of their leadership roles both within their current organization and beyond graduation.

Goals:

1. To develop effective leadership behaviors within the members of the Greek system.
2. To utilize a broad range of college administrators, faculty, staff and alumni in the planning stages.
3. To offer the opportunity for members to gather and discuss local and national issues and trends that is currently facing fraternities and sororities.
4. The programs will advocate consistency between that which is taught through the program and the process by which institutional decisions affecting students are made.
5. The programs will include seminars that will explore leadership issues of concern to Greeks both individually and within their respective organizations.
6. To afford the members of the Greek system the opportunity to meet and interact with other Greeks in an informal yet educational setting.

What is the difference between GLAD 101 and GLAD 201?

The GLAD Program has been designed to address two levels of leadership within the BSC Greek system. : GLAD 101 is geared towards the development of new and emerging leaders within the Greek system (i.e. freshmen and sophomores). The focus of the 101 program is on the development of each member as a current and/or potential leader.

The emphasis of the GLAD 201 program is more encompassing of the entire Greek system. The focus of the 201 program is the utilization of our more experienced members (i.e. juniors and seniors) and their various levels of leadership and experience in addressing issues and concerns that are currently facing the Greek system both locally and nationally.

How are students selected to participate and what are the criteria?

For GLAD 101: Each organization within the Greek system is entitled to nominate up to five representatives. Either their president and/or their executive boards select the nominees. Students selected to participate must be full-time undergraduates and maintain a GPA of at least a 2.0.

For GLAD 201: Interest forms are sent to each organization within the Greek system and they are entitled to nominate up to five representatives. Members must hold a current executive board position, either within their organization or in one of the recognized Greek governing boards. Students who have participated in GLAD 101 are strongly encouraged to apply as well.

When do the GLAD Programs meet?

GLAD 101 is held in the Spring semester while GLAD 201 takes place during the Fall.

Who are the presenters?

The intent of the programs is to have both campus personnel as well as off-campus specialists present the various sessions. Presenters for the program will include alumni, faculty, staff and administrators from the college as well as members from the nationally affiliated fraternities and sororities.

How is the curriculum developed?

The curriculum for the two programs is developed by the members of the Student Involvement Staff along with the members of the Greek Advisory Board, advisors and graduated members from the program. Topics covered in the past have included Vision and Goal Setting, "Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program, Myers/Briggs, Rush/Recruitment, Image and Drug and Alcohol Education
