The Leadership Programs Office, in Campus Center room 107, provides resources for students to enhance or create many diverse and exciting leadership opportunities. The Office has books, articles, videos, and listings of opportunities to enrich leadership styles and growth for individuals and organizations. The Office is available to any student, and is designed to help foster leadership skills and maximize co-curricular involvement both on- and off-campus. An important component of the Leadership Programs Office is the Leadership Institute.
A significant component of the educational experience of BSC students is leadership training. The Leadership Institute uses strategies that allow student leaders to develop skills and abilities, provides opportunities for increased understanding of the group process, and highlights campus resources. By participating in this multi-faceted program, student leaders will be able to make the most of their co-curricular involvement, and in turn, enhance their overall personal development.
The Leadership Institute has been designed to help students understand learning experiences in co-curricular life and their relationship to classroom work, to assist students in becoming effective leaders in organizations both at Bridgewater State College and after graduation, and to encourage personal growth and development through active participation in discussion, exercises, and workshops. Campus personnel and experts from outside the college environment teach in the Institutes's curriculum.
Nominations to The Leadership Institute are sought from campus faculty and staff. Letters are then sent to nominees inviting them to participate, and the selection committee reviews the nominees and selects participants.
The Institute meets during each fall semester for six weeks. Regular meetings insure that members are committed to the program and to their own personal development. The Institute begins with a mandatory one-day workshop to introduce students to conceptual precepts of the institute and develop a contract for learning. |
