The Office of Second Language Services is dedicated to supporting linguistically diverse students in the acquisition of English language skills through informal language proficiency evaluations, ESL tutoring, BSC Conversation Partners' Program, and work with BSC faculty and staff. The Director of Second Language Services evaluates students' current skills in English and connects students with peer tutors, conversation partners, and other learning assistance programs in the Academic Achievement Center. The Director also works with faculty and staff and may suggest classroom strategies to enhance students' academic learning in the English language environment (e.g. the use of a bilingual dictionary, extended time to complete written exams, permission to tape record lectures, etc.). Classroom learning enhancement strategies are determined on a case-by-case basis and are developed as a collaborative effort of faculty and the Director of Second Language Services. The Office of Second Language Services is located in the Academic Achievement Center in the Maxwell Library.
