Search Instructions for Each Database

AGM- Associate Grant Makers:

  • Click on For Grant Seekers and then Grant Makers Directory. Next, click on Advanced Search. You can save this search by naming it.
  • Choose Program Interest from list, Click Select at the bottom of the page.
  • Choose Support Type.  If you need more restrictions, you may click Add.
  • Next, choose Geographic Focus. Population Interest may be selected, but is not recommended because it is too restrictive.
  • Finally, select Yes  for unsolicited request accepted and Search.
  • When looking at opportunities, check the Geographic Focus to make sure it's not restricted to a certain area.
  • Next, read the Mission Statement, followed by the organization's website.  Check it off if you're interested.
  • You may Print Results once you've marked off ones you like.
  • If you can't remember what you did a search on, but like the results of it, you may click on My Searches in the upper right-hand corner to see your searches.
Foundation Center:

The Foundation Finder is used for quick access to basic information about grant makers. 

  • First, type the name of the grant maker if you know it. 
  • You may narrow down your search by City, State and Zip. 
  • Once you have entered all of your search terms, click the Find button.

    If you want to use the more advanced database, you need to come into the office.  The graduate assistant will be able to help you with your search.

GRC:

  • Under Research Tools, click Grant Search. 
  • In the search bar, type a keyword which you do not think will be too restrictive. 
  • Select an Academic Category. Check off the programs you like.
  • Select the activity you want funded.  You do not need to select a sponsor (it is too restrictive). 
  • Once you are done searching, click View Selected and Print.

IRIS database:
On Campus - You don't need to Log-In
Off Campus- You must Log-In with Username and Password

  • Unless looking for specific grant- Go to the thesaurus and click Choose Keywords.
  • Click Save once you've selected your keywords & then click Load into Search Statement. Tip: For your first search, make it less specific.
  • If you choose to see your results in LIST FORM, it'll be quicker - look at titles and check off those that you think will meet your needs.
  • Click View Tagged Records to get more details on your selections.

Tip: IRIS has a very nice feature, which alerts you of new grants: Click the IRIS Alert Service link on the left hand side.  Next, click Creating New IRIS Alert Profile and follow directions.

Grants.gov:
You may sign up for customized e-mail alerts, or do a search.

  • Search by Keyword or use Advanced Search to narrow it down.
    ex:  If you use a keyword (health education) and then put in a word (obesity), it will give you all health education related to obesity.

    For customized email alerts:
    Select by Topic or Agencies

    Soon, all federal grant submissions will go through grants.gov.  -
    Only OGSP can submit through Grants.gov.

GrantsNet:

  • Under Grants and Funding in the top toolbar, select Search GrantsNet
  • You may then select your Experience Level, Type of Application, Area of Research (Optional), and Deadline Date (Optional). 
  • If you would like to use a keyword, you may type it in the Text Search box.
