Enrolling at Bridgewater this fall as a new freshmen? Through STREAMS, Bridgewater runs a Summer Bridge Program for 16 incoming science and math freshmen each summer. In Summer 2013, the program will run in late July and early August for three weeks. Students who participate earn a $450 stipend, receive scholarships that pay for two college classes, and perform research in labs with Bridgewater faculty and students. Students in the past three years in the program have earned higher grades and completed more science and math courses in their first year at Bridgewater than their peers who did not participate. You can now download a flyer on the summer bridge program and the application. Send applications to Dr. Stephen Waratuke (swaratuke@bridgew.edu). We have rolling admissions to the summer bridge, so please consider applying soon. Not sure if this program is right for you? Please contact Dr. Stephen Waratuke swaratuke@bridgew.edu for more information as soon as possible. |
STREAMS is a five-year, $1 million, NSF-funded STEP Grant designed to help more students graduate with science or mathematics degrees from Bridgewater State University. Grant activities are underway and include a summer bridge program for incoming first year students, curricular changes in introductory courses, a mentoring program for new students, improved transfer advising, and piloting of Structured Learning Assistance. Check out NewSTREAMS, our spring 2013 newsletter to find out more about the new Science and Math Residential Learning Community in Woodward Hall and updates on the number of science and mathematics majors at BSU and their success. |
Science and Math At BSU keeps Growing! With growth in each department in the College of Science and Mathematics, we are well on our way to meeting our grant goal of increasing the number of graduates with science and math degrees by over 40 graduates per year starting in 2015. |
192 is the number of D, F, or W grades eliminated to date due to increased small group, peer-led, inquiry-based teaching in BSU's introductory science and math classes. Reducing poor student grades is leading to increased student retention within science and math majors. Bridgewater's activity to improve student success means pays big dividends for students. |
