STREAMS Residential Learning Community

STREAMS supports a special Residential Learning Community for BSU science and math majors. Students accepted into the Science and Mathematics Residential Learning Community will work together to be successful in their chosen major (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics). These science and mathematics students will live together on the same floor in Woodward Hall in 2012-2013, but the community will move to Scott Hall in fall 2013.

The benefits for first year students of living in the Residential Learning Community include

  • access to a special 1-credit course introducing students to the study of science and mathematics at Bridgewater
  • achieving greater awareness of the methods of science and mathematics disciplines by working with upper-class students and faculty
  • receiving guaranteed housing in Woodward on a floor with other science and mathematics majors
  • receiving support from Residence Assistants who are upper-class science and math majors
  • easy access to supported study sessions in the residence hall led by Residential Mentors
  • programming specifically geared toward science and mathematics disciplines

The benefits for upper-class students of living in the Residential Learning Community include

  • the opportunity to be a mentor first year students towards a successful career (excellent resume potential)
  • access to faculty members outside the classroom
  • guaranteed housing in Woodward on a floor with only science and mathematics majors
  • programming specifically geared toward science and mathematics disciplines
