Each year four students from the graduating class are selected to serve in the honorary role of Class Marshal. The selected students represent the class as members of the Convocation Committee that meets periodically during the academic year. Marshals will assist winter and spring commencements, and assume a variety of assignments including lining up and seating graduates. Marshals begin their role in the Fall of 2013, but selected marshals are encouraged to volunteer during this spring commencement.
Minimum qualifications for the position include a projected graduation date of May 2014 (to be verified by the Registrar's Office); the ability to get along with people and to maintain composure and a sense of humor under stressful conditions; demonstrated leadership skills; and the respect of peers, faculty and staff. Candidates must be available to attend mandatory training sessions prior to winter and spring commencements.
Students will be selected in April for the positions of marshal by a committee which includes the college marshal, the assistant vice president of student affairs, the assistant to the president and a current student marshal.
Qualified students interested in the position should complete the application form and submit it to Student Affairs no later than Monday, March 25, 2013. Part of the application form includes a nomination form a member of the faculty or staff.
