What does it cost to ride the bus?
Service is free for all members of the college and town community.
Why don't we have more buses?
We are currently contracted with Brockton Area Transit (bat) to have four (4) buses, however, most times we only have three (3). The bus schedule is set up to coincide with class schedules and high passenger traffic times. Transit can not be responsible for meeting every student's class schedule, so therefore, we recommend that you plan your day accordingly. All bus routes have been carefully planned with safety and efficiency in mind. Brockton Area Transit (bat) must approve all routes prior to the start of each semester.
Why can't the bus stop at every designated bus stop and is there flag down service?
We have instituted the use of the "Chime" system. All three (3) buses have designated bus layover stops. The bus only stops if a passenger rings the "Chime" or if a passenger is standing at a designated bus stop waiting to board the bus. This is necessary to keep the buses on schedule. Because of safety issues, there is no flag down service on campus, however, there is flag down service on the Route 28 bus that provides service to Brockton. This flag down service starts at Cumberland Farms and continues to South Plaza and back.
Why can't the back doors of the bus be used everyday?
The use of the back doors is only used in inclement weather. It is extremely dangerous to use these doors because it is a hazard to the passengers, and is not easily visible to the driver.
Why can't passengers be dropped off at the railroad track when the bus stops to check for trains?
The answer to this question is simple, STATE LAW PROHIBITS IT! The bus stops at the track to listen for trains that may be approaching the area, if the driver has passengers disembarking his full attention will not be on the trains. The railroad crossing is the most dangerous crossing the bus encounters on the college route, and is not to be taken lightly.
I have an injury and find it difficult to climb the stairs onto the bus. What can I do?
The bus is equipped with a kneel system feature which lowers the front end of the bus down to the curb level making for easy access onto the bus.
Have the drivers been trained to use the wheelchair lift safely?
Yes, all drivers have been trained on the safety and procedures of wheelchair operation.
If a student has a vision disability, how will they know when to get off the bus?
They should advise the driver upon boarding the bus as to where they will be departing.
Is there any campus bus service after 8 P.M.? On Weekends?
There is no bus service on campus after 8P.M. Monday - Friday. As for the weekends, the bus shuttle does not run on Saturday and Sundays. The weekend is when the buses are washed and maintained by the transit staff.
The Escort Service does operate seven days a week from 7 P.M.- 3 A.M. and provides an on-call service for all students. Contact number is 508.531.1745.
