The MAT program is designed for high school and middle school subject area teachers with initial certification who are seeking professional licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as for licensed secondary school teachers who wish to enhance their teaching skills and earn a master's degree in a particular discipline. The program meets the appropriate master's degree requirement, which is part of the criteria for professional stage licensure as defined in MA DESE licensure regulations.
The 33-credit curriculum includes core courses such as The Teacher as Researcher, The Teacher as Leader: From Issues to Advocacy, and Instruction and Assessment for Diverse Learners, as well as 18 credits in the academic area of concentration.
