Master of Science in Accountancy program

Bridgewater State University’s MSA program provides the managerial perspectives and technical accounting skills professionals need to successfully navigate the complexities of today’s financial reporting and disclosure practices. The program is prepares working professionals for management-level careers in the field of accounting. Designed to accommodate the schedules of professionals in the field, the program allows you to choose either a full or part-time option.  Delivered in a flexible, adaptable format, you can maintain your professional and family obligations while earning a degree that provides graduates from the technical accounting and practical problem-solving skills necessary for advancement in an increasingly competitive field.

The MSA program is designed to prepare working professionals for management-level careers in the field of accounting. Delivered in a flexible, adaptable format, this highly focused curriculum provides graduates with the technical accounting and practical problem-solving skills necessary for advancement in an increasingly competitive field. Students of the program can expect to develop a deep understanding of the functions and techniques of accounting, while gaining a solid foundation in social, ethical and technological disciplines.

Bridgewater also has the only southeastern Massachusetts MSA program that meets the Option One (Level 1) educational requirement to sit for the CPA exam.

Admissions Requirements

  • Online application - A completed online application and $50 application fee
  • Resume - A résumé which demonstrates the applicant’s potential for leadership and academic achievement as evidenced by activities during his or her professional career or undergraduate business studies 
  • Transcripts - Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work
  • Bachelor's Degree - A bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university; if the degree has not yet been awarded at the time of application, the successful applicant must be nearing completion of the bachelor’s degree
  • Letters of Recommendation - Three letters of recommendation, at least one each from academic and professional references
  • GMAT Scores - Official copy of scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) 
  • Personal Statement - Prepare a brief, but careful statement regarding the reasons you want to pursue graduate work in this field, your specific interest and experiences in this field, and your career goals.

Application Deadlines

Fall: April 1
Spring: October 1
Summer: February 1
Applications should be complete by the priority deadlines to ensure an admissions decision for the semester in which the applicant wishes to enroll. Late applications will be accepted, however, applications received without adequate time for processing before the start of the semester (usually six to eight weeks prior to the beginning of classes) will be processed for admission in the following semester.

Advanced Standing

The MSA requires students to complete courses in three different categories (Foundation, Function and Elective). Students may be admitted with “Advanced Standing” if your prior coursework covers some or all of the Foundation courses.  Eligibility will be determined upon application.  Please contact Dr. Patricia Bancroft ( for advice on your individual situation.  

Depending on the student’s Advanced Standing status, the requirements for the degree range from 30 to 54 credit hours.

Funding Opportunities

The College of Graduate Studies provides various opportunities for graduate students to receive funding while working towards their degrees. Appointments are competitive and are determined by undergraduate and/or graduate grade point averages, pertinent experience, educational preparation and interviews.
