Community Engagement & Leadership
Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellowship
The Newman Civic Fellowship is a fellowship program for community-committed students at Campus Compact member institutions. The fellowship provides training and resources that nurture and develop students’ assets and passions to help them develop innovative and collaborative strategies to bring about social change. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides learning opportunities focused on the skills and aptitudes fellows need in order to serve as effective agents of change in addressing public problems and in building equitable communities.
The fellowship is a one-year experience in which fellows have access to in-person and virtual learning opportunities, networking events, and local mentors. Fellows are selected each spring, and the fellowship begins the following academic year.
CCSNE is a coalition of colleges and universities across Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island dedicated to advancing the public purpose of higher education. 70 AmeriCorps VISTA members are placed with CCSNE member universities and are responsible for facilitating campus-community partnerships that strive to improve education outcomes for youth and students living in poverty.
Civic Engagement Fellows Program
Through this community-based learning experience students engage in nonprofit programming, explore careers in the nonprofit sector and examine public policy. Fellows are selected for a one year commitment in the fall and are offered leadership development opportunities throughout the year, in addition to working closely with an identified regional partner.
