Alternative Break Trips

Alternative Break Trips

The Alternative Break Trip (ABT) program at BSU offers students the opportunity to engage in direct service through a weeklong immersion experience. Social justice education and civic and personal reflection are pillars of the ABT program. Trips are student lead and explore a variety of social justice issues such as immigration advocacy and policy, rural and urban poverty, access to affordable housing and youth development programs. Trip participants attend weekly pre-trip meetings to help to prepare the group for the experience. Trip leaders along with learning partners work to prepare participants for the important journey through teambuilding and issue-specific education.

Groups have traveled to Florida, South Dakota, Connecticut, New York and Washington, DC to serve communities and learn about social justice issues through direct service.

Applications open in the fall semester and are available online.
