Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community Corps members to serve preschool children in under resourced neighborhoods. Our intentional curriculum, based on the latest research and best practices in early childhood education, helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten and beyond.
At Bridgewater State University, students from all major programs and concentrations make a yearlong commitment to become Jumpstart Corps members and provide services to children in the under-served communities of Brockton.

Baskets of Love
Each fall, Jumpstart Bridgewater calls on the Bridgewater State University community to get a jump start on bringing some holiday cheer to those in need. Volunteers have the opportunity to provide the children and families served by Jumpstart with items they need to make it through the holiday season; wish lists in hand, volunteers fill a laundry basket with winter essentials and lots of love.
National Week of the Young Child
The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association. The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. Jumpstart Bridgewater celebrates The Week of the Young Child by hosting an event each April.
Read for the Record
Each October, Jumpstart shines a spotlight on America’s early education achievement gap to stress the importance of high quality early education programming. We call on readers everywhere to come together, celebrate literacy, and participate in the world’s largest shared reading experience.
