COVID-19: Information on Pass/No Pass, Registration & Advising - April 1, 2020

Dear Students,

We hope you are all doing well as together we adjust to the new reality of online/remote learning. Please know we are here to help you. Please visit BSU’s dedicated COVID-19 web page for information on academic, technology and health and wellness resources that are available to you.

We have several updates to share with you concerning a Pass/No Pass grading policy and information concerning advising and registration for Fall 2020 classes.

Pass/No Pass Grading

In light of the significant challenges associated with COVID-19 and the transition to online/remote learning, about one-third of BSU’s undergraduate students have petitioned Bridgewater State University to adopt a Pass/No Pass (P/N) grading policy for the Spring 2020 semester. We have put forward a proposal   to BSU’s All University Committee (AUC), which would allow students to opt into a Pass/No Pass grade for individual classes or all classes following receipt of their final Spring 2020 semester grades. The AUC, comprised of faculty, staff and student representatives with authority to make decisions on matters of academic policy and programs, will consider the P/N proposal at its April 8 meeting, when we expect a decision to be made on this important issue.

By moving courses to an opt-in Pass/No Pass (P/N) model, undergraduate students may be able to better focus on their learning in the exclusively online format and have the option of electing to receive P/N grades in place of letter grades. Many colleges and universities, including nearly all of the Massachusetts State Universities, have adopted a similar model of grading for the Spring 2020 semester.

The AUC also will be considering a proposal to extend the period for students to withdraw from a full semester course from April 9 to April 23.

We are proceeding with our registration for Fall 2020 classes, although we have made a few changes to assist you though this process:

Academic Advising:
Academic advising for Fall 2020 will begin on April 6 as originally planned. Academic departments and advising staff in the Academic Achievement Center are developing plans to make sure that you have the information you need to build a schedule for the Fall 2020 semester. You can help make the process go more smoothly by emailing your advisor (listed on your degree audit) with your student id number, the courses you want to take, and the best way to contact you.

Fall 2020 Registration:
Fall registration will be moved back one week and will now begin on April 23 and continue until May 1.

The following is the new schedule for registration:
