Subject: BSU Safe Return Task Force – Update – A Message from Provost Karim Ismaili
Dear campus community,
First, let me express my gratitude to all of you who answered the call by completing the online survey. We received more than 1,700 responses, including nearly 1,400 completed surveys from students. This information will be invaluable and as we complete and implement the Task Force recommendations.
This week, the Task Force took a major step forward when it received detailed plans from each of the four subcommittees – Academic Continuity, Student Life, Facilities and Logistics, and External Community Outreach – as well as reports on the planned return of staff to campus and from the Health Response Group, which is assessing, preparing and implementing health protocols for keeping our campus safe. The plans submitted to the Task Force are thoughtful, detailed, and address the many questions and complexities arising from the pandemic. I want to thank the chairs and members of each of the subcommittees for their extraordinary work in developing these plans during a period of still considerable uncertainty.
The work of the Task Force now shifts to drawing on these reports in developing an integrated set of recommendations that will knit together and align discrete plans around teaching and learning; delivery of courses on-line and in hybrid formats; supporting student and faculty research; occupation of residence halls; delivery of dining services; providing student services, academic supports and advising; holding on-campus student and community events; cleaning of buildings, classrooms, office spaces and common areas; testing and contact tracing; implementing protocols for physical distancing, hygiene and wearing masks; communicating information to the BSU community; and sharing information with the Town of Bridgewater and the larger region served by BSU. In all our planning, the safety of the BSU community has been paramount.
The Safe Return Task Force will hold its final meeting next Wednesday, June 17, and will provide its last update on June 18. The final report of the Task Force will be drafted over the next two weeks, with recommendations submitted to President Clark and presented to the Board of Trustees by June 25.
Please visit BSU’s COVID-19: Safe Return website, which will serve as a central repository for information regarding the work of the Task Force and other resources and documents related to a safe return.
