Rita Roy has a BFA in Theatre Technology from Florida State University and her MS in Physics from UMass Dartmouth. She is skilled in many areas of performance, such as acting, dance, production management, design, carpentry, welding, puppetry, rigging, and lighting. Some have even called her a "Renaissance Woman" of the stage. Rita Roy has worked in theater production from a very young age. Theatre has always felt like home to her. From black box theatres in the college circuit to mainstages in Boston, she is always willing to throw in her technical two cents and collaborate with other artists to make a wonderful experience for the audience.
She has spent the last few years as a freelance technical director and scenic designer in Boston and the surrounding communities. Rita has worked for such companies as Boston Lyric Opera, The Huntington Theatre, Boston Center for the Arts, Sleeping Weazel Productions, Wheaton College, Studio @ 550, and even film productions. At Bridgewater State University, Rita is usually found hard at work in the theatre’s scene shop managing the scenic construction process for all of the theatre department productions. She also teaches many hands on skills in the technical production sections of theatre practicums and Stage Craft.
