The Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice presents a special edition of our Civic Speaker Series honoring Black History Month. We will discuss reparations and how they can be a tool to help communities move forward on a path toward justice.
In 2022, the Providence RI Municipal Reparations Commission was formed and tasked with recommending policies, programs, and projects to begin repairing harm to African Heritage and Indigenous Communities using $10 million allocated through the American Rescue Plan.
Guest speakers Kyle Bennett and Dwayne Keys of the Providence RI Municipal Reparations Commission will share their experiences and present how the Commission approached its work, how it engaged the community, and how its recommendations close the racial wealth and equity gap between Providence residents and neighborhoods.
