Subject: Update on Mask Wearing
Dear BSU community,
You no doubt have been following the news regarding the resurgence of the COVID-19 virus and the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations regarding indoor mask wearing in certain areas of the country.
We are carefully reviewing the updated CDC guidance for local decision-making, information on transmission rates across different counties in the region, and are in contact with state and local public health officials as well as other higher education institutions.
It is important to note that Plymouth County is not currently designated as having high or substantial transmission rates. However, two of our surrounding counties — Bristol and Barnstable — are areas of substantial or high transmission. Effective immediately, and in an abundance of caution, we are encouraging all members of our community (including vaccinated members) to wear a mask in indoor settings on campus. If you are unvaccinated, in accordance with the CDC guidelines, you should always wear a mask in indoor public places.
Receiving the COVID-19 vaccination remains the most effective means of both preventing individual infection and gaining control of the pandemic. Further, vaccinated individuals are less likely to develop symptoms of COVID-19 if they become infected and are at substantially reduced risk of severe illness. To locate a vaccine site, please go to the Massachusetts vaxfinder site .
We will continue to keep the campus informed of any changes in guidance related to our region. As always, in all of our decision-making, we will continue to prioritize the safety of our BSU community.
