Health/Family and Consumer Sciences (PreK-12) (Initial Licensure), Postbaccalaureate Licensure

The Health/Family and Consumer Sciences Postbaccalaureate Licensure program is designed for persons who have a bachelor’s degree and wish to be licensed as teachers of health education (PreK-12). Students who successfully complete the curriculum below are eligible. For information regarding application procedures and admission standards, students should consult the Admission-Graduate section of this catalog.

Students seeking initial licensure should consult the Educator Preparation and Licensure Policies and Procedures section of this catalog for information pertaining to licensure, admission to and retention in professional education, as well as important institutional deadlines.

Admissions Requirements

  • Online application - A completed application and $50 application fee
  • Transcripts - Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work, including proof of a bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university; if the degree has not yet been awarded at the time of application, the successful applicant must be nearing completion of the bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum GPA -  A minimum 2.8 GPA
  • Letters of Recommendation - Two letters of recommendation, at least one from academic and professional references
  • MTEL Scores- A qualifying score on the Communication and Literacy Skills portion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure® (MTEL)
