Bridgewater State University’s post baccalaureate health professions and pre-medical sciences program (PHPPMS) is the connective tissue bridging the gap between a bachelor’s degree and medical school — or your desired job in the healthcare field. BSU’s interdisciplinary approach offers you unprecedented customization to choose courses that align with your interests. Whether you pursue dentistry school or have your sights set on a physical therapy career, our Health and Kinesiology department faculty work with you to provide the appropriate curriculum requirements.

Our post baccalaureate pre-medical program pathway is targeted to students with a bachelor’s degree looking to strengthen academic credentials for medical school applications or other health-related careers. Whereas the MEd in Health Promotion provides professionals the credentials to advance in public health agencies and non-governmental organizations.

Master of Health Promotion students and those enrolled in the post bac pre-med program can take in-person courses or a hybrid of in-person and online offerings, with evening and summer options available.

Get individual attention with small class sizes and personalized advising

The student-to-faculty ratio is between 10:1 and 15:1 in health promotions and post baccalaureate pre-medical programs.

Customize your program of study to your specific career interests as you earn your family and consumer science teaching licensure, seek to fulfill requirements of our post bac pre-med programs or add a Master of Health Promotion to your resume. No matter your track, you and your advisor will work together to curate a curriculum that offers the right mix of core courses and electives in disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, microbiology and biochemistry.

Careers in Health and Kinesiology

Graduates of our Master of Health Promotion go on to work as nutrition professionals, while students who complete post baccalaureate pre-medical programs apply to medical school. Job opportunities in community health abound as well for our alumni, who go on to positions in local government and nonprofit organizations. Other jobs alumni seek are in fields such as physical therapy, athletic training, dental medicine and veterinary medicine. BSU alumni with a Master of Health Promotion have held job titles such as:

  • Nutritionist
  • Consultant, Infection Prevention at Commonwealth Medicine, UMass Medical School
  • Director at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
  • Clinical Dietician

Graduate Funding Opportunities

The College of Graduate Studies provides various opportunities for graduate students to receive funding while working towards their degrees. Appointments are competitive and are determined by undergraduate and/or graduate grade point averages, pertinent experience, educational preparation and interviews.
