Alison l'Heureux

As a Bridgewater graduate student, Alison L’Heureux had the hands-on experience of working as a student teacher with preschoolers with autism. Inspired by her students, she decided she wanted to do more.

First, she began training to endure the 26.2 miles of the Boston Marathon. Next, she spent five months cashing in bottles and cans while collecting donations from Bridgewater to Uxbridge (her hometown) to sponsor her run in the Marathon.

More than 14,000 bottles and cans later, Alison – who is pursuing a Master of Education in Special Education – ran the race and raised nearly $11,000 for the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism. She hopes that the money she raised will help promote autism awareness, increase research and develop programs that will make a difference for families coping with autism.
