Engaging Families

Welcome Parents & Family Members!

Bridgewater State University recognizes that you are a very important partner in your student's success. New Student & Family Programs (NSFP) is here to help you connect to campus and serves as an ongoing resource throughout your student's college journey.

NSFP hosts events to connect family members with the campus and the day-to-day lives of students.

Family Association

As a parent/supporter of a Bridgewater State University student, you are automatically a member of the Family Association.

The BSU Family Association supports parents and supporters like you! Parents involved with the Association gain a better understanding of how to support their student's BSU Experience by having enhanced communication between university resources and fellow parents of students.

Our on-campus dinner meetings are held twice a semester during the academic year and provide family members an opportunity to voice ideas and be informed about current news occurring at the university. Please consider joining us, we welcome your participation and support! See our Calendar for dates and reply forms.

Time to Talk

The Time to Talk educational sessions are intended for both you and your student to become better informed on topics that will enrich your student's academic experience and developmental growth. The program provides students and their family supporters a space to be educated on important topics and issues that affect today's college students such as safety, personal well being, financial literacy and impactful engagement opportunities. Please see our Calendar for dates and reply forms.

Homecoming & Family Day

Homecoming & Family Day is a prized BSU tradition. This annual fall event is a time for students, alumni, families, and friends to gather to celebrate campus pride and experience BSU life.

Family Ambassadors

Family Ambassadors are a coalition of BSU staff and faculty members who recognize and support the collaborative relationship with families as a positive influence on student success. The ambassadors are an excellent family resource who attend family sponsored programs such as Family Association meetings and Time to Talk sessions and contribute articles for the Family E-Newsletters.

Ways to Give

BSU parents have a history of joining together to support students. There are various ways you can give to support student success and provide hardworking, deserving BSU students with life changing opportunities.

  1. The Student Emergency Fund was created to support BSU students facing financial hardships resulting from emergency or crisis situations. Funds awarded are to help alleviate short-term financial needs of the student. The fund is sustained through fundraising efforts of Family Association and University Advancement. More information about this fund is available on the Student Portal under the financial feature.
  2. The Family Association Scholarship Fund rewards student who demonstrate academic achievement and are engaging in campus and service involvement. Students can apply for this scholarship from the university’s scholarship database accessed on the Student Portal under the financial feature.
  3. The Bridgewater Fund provides students with immediate support to ensure access to need-based financial assistance and life-transforming internships.

Every gift counts. The more we grow this fund each year, the more scholarships we can award to deserving students. Continue the tradition of helping others when they need it most by visiting give.bridgew.edu/BSUfund.
