Established in 1997, the Democratic Governance and Leadership Program (DGLP) is housed within the Department of Political Science and runs the Civic Education and Community Leadership Minor. It operates within the context of a dynamic educational environment that encourages teaching, scholarship, and community service. The DGLP has three primary goals:
Academic Scholarship
To advance our knowledge and understanding of democratic governance and leadership in established and emerging democracies, as well as the potential pathways to democratic governance in non-democracies;
Civic Education
To enhance the quality of undergraduate and graduate education through the promotion of civic education programs, internships, academic seminars, and professional conferences;
Public Outreach
To engage and advance the economic, cultural, civic, and political life of southeastern Massachusetts, other domestic communities, and our global community.
