Dr. Sheena Rancher's career in special education includes teaching P-12 students with disabilities for 9 years and teaching preservice candidates in the College of Education (concentration area: special education) for 2 years. She has been in the field of education for 14 years from private tutoring to paraprofessional to assistant professor. She coordinated enrichment activities for blind children and their families for 7 years. She is a member of several organizations including National Federation of the Blind, International Literacy Association, Louisiana Reading Association, and Women in Higher Education Association. 

Dr. Rancher has several publications in Future Reflections, Braille Monitor, and Journal of Blindness Innovation and Research related to blindness education for school-aged children. She also published a journal/devotion titled, “I Surrender: A Ten-Week Journal Reading. She was awarded Educator of the Year from the National Federation of the Blind – Louisiana and Distinguished Teacher of the Year from Louisiana’s Reading Association – North Council.
