Research, Scholarship, and Creative Endeavors

Bridgewater State supports two major initiatives for faculty and librarian development with regard to their own as well as their students’ research, scholarship and creative endeavors.

The Office of Undergraduate Research provides faculty with opportunities to mentor students in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. More information may be found at

The Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (CARS) is organized and led by faculty, librarians and staff with the goal of fostering the development of research, scholarship, and creative endeavors for full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty and librarians across all disciplines. CARS promotes individual, collaborative, and interdisciplinary scholarship through internal grant funding and scholarly programming such as faculty colloquia and research forums, grant writing workshops, a book club, and the annual May Celebration which showcases the scholarly accomplishments of faculty and librarians. CARS grant programs provide release time from teaching and financial support through multiple initiatives.

In addition to the two CARS coordinators, there are two CARS research fellows who are available to meet with faculty and librarians to help them develop their research plans and grant applications for internal funding. The CARS team also works closely with the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects to move applicants from internal to external funding.
