Using the Massachusetts Science and Technology Practice Standards, have students investigate a phenomenon that one would investigate while developing one of the innovations outlined in this timeline, including scientific and technological phenomena of the Native Peoples and their industries pre-1600. Students can assume the role of that scientist and generate a series of questions that they would ask to try and explain that phenomenon. Then have students engage in a deeper study of the actual history to understand how that scientist made their discovery.
