Adv Lit Strategies in Spec Ed

Prerequisite: SPED 509 with a minimum grade of "B" This advanced course will cover the diagnosis of and instructional alternatives for students who need special education literacy instruction. Participants will explore a variety of informal diagnostic tools and evidenced-based methods utilized in special education literacy instruction. Teaching approaches will be analyzed as they apply to the instruction of reading in a small group or 1:1 setting, in literacy/language arts classes, and teaching literacy in content areas. A required field-based experience allows students to incorporate new information and implement new ideas in a practical setting.
