Prerequisite: Matriculation in MA program in clinical psychology This course explores personality from various perspectives including traits, psychoanalytic, behavioral, humanistic, narrative and sociocultural approaches. Students will become familiar with prominent theories of personality and will be introduced to the assessment tools used to measure personality. This course also explores the contextual factors (i.e., language, culture, family of origin) contributing to the development and expression of personality. Finally, this course introduces students to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of personality disorders. It applies knowledge from earlier in the course to conceptualize the development and treatment of personality disorders using various theoretical perspectives. In doing so, students gain insight regarding their own personalities as well as the mechanisms underlying extreme or maladaptive patterns of personality. Offered annually.
