This course is an introduction to the field of biology and the Department of Biological Sciences with an emphasis on laboratory skill development, highlighting career options in biology, and exposing students to campus resources and opportunities for academic success, research and career preparation. Students will explore the diverse sub-disciplines within biology while also practicing skills required by upper-level courses, including use of common laboratory equipment, laboratory safety and general procedures, data management, data analysis and communication of results. Faculty from the department will share their research expertise through a series of introductory videos and in-class visits. This course is for biology majors and is intended for students in their first year as a degree-seeking student within the major. Offered fall and spring semesters.
