Prerequisite: CHEM 142 or consent of instructor The goal of this course is to begin the formal process of preparing students for a professional career in the chemical sciences. Students will collaborate with a cohort of chemistry majors to: outline a professional portfolio, be introduced to research in chemistry and explore the chemistry profession through the American Chemical Society. Through small group discussions, students will explore a variety of career paths, including graduate or professional school, teaching, industry, government, etc. Students will draft a career objective statement, list their unique skills, gain access to career resources in chemistry, draft a professional resume, share their understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and respect and draft their own DEIR statement. Students will learn about undergraduate research at BSU, and explore research projects in the chemistry department, plus external research and internship opportunities. Graded on a (P) Pass/(N) No Pass basis. Offered fall and spring semesters.
