Prerequisite: ENGL 102 An introduction to the "Golden Age" of children's literature from the mid-nineteenth through the early twentieth century, this writing intensive course focuses on representations of children and childhood and the role of gender, class and empire in works by Lewis Carroll, J.M. Barrie, Frances Hodgson Burnett and others. Students will also explore concepts such as innocence, agency, resilience, play and otherness. Offered fall and spring semesters.
