Prerequisite: Two art history (ARTH) courses or consent of instructor This course introduces students to the global history of art museums and exhibitions from the 18th century to the present. Through a chronological and thematic selection, it studies a series of case studies to provide an overview of diverse methods of collecting and displaying art and other cultural products. The course studies the continuities and ruptures established between different modes of display, focusing on how different museums, galleries, curators and other agents from around the globe have presented artworks to diverse audiences. Offered alternate years.
