Prerequisite: SPED 304 with a minimum grade of "B" or consent of department chairperson This course provides teacher education students with the sound knowledge and understanding of the skills and dispositions required to teach secondary level special education students in grades 5-12 to better read, understand, write, learn and think with all forms of text across various content areas. Specifically, this course focuses on planning instruction for content literacy; teaching skills for better reading comprehension; developing vocabulary and concepts; writing across the curriculum; developing study skills; and engaging in culturally responsive teaching across content areas. Subject matter knowledge: Integration of math, English history/social sciences, science frameworks and characteristics of moderate disabilities.
