Prerequisite: CRJU 150, which may be taken concurrently This course provides an overview of the theoretical frameworks for explaining criminal behavior. Each of the major criminological paradigms – biological, psychological, environmental, social, political, economic and integrated theories – will be discussed. The historical, political and social context in which these theories emerged and the policy implications of the theories will also be presented. The class will focus on each theory's major tenets, its social context, and critiques of its assumptions and reasoning. Offered fall, spring, summer.
