The emphases are on understanding design choices, critical assessment of design options, correct communication of conclusions, and use of statistical software to calculate test statistics. Topics include formulating a statistical question, confounding, randomization, blocking, replication, analysis of variance, analysis of covariance, variance stabilizing transformations, factorial designs, random effects and mixed effects models, repeated measures, and nested and split-plot designs. The course includes hand-on active learning and applications of the concepts in specific contexts using statistical software. Offered spring semester.
