Prerequisite: ENGL 203 and ENGL 234 or consent of instructor This course begins with the first colonization of the Americas and stretches beyond the Revolution to the early national period and the beginnings of Romanticism. The full range of early American writing is covered, including poetry, drama, fiction and autobiography, as well as English-language texts of Native Americans. Authors such as Anne Bradstreet, Olaudah Equiano, Benjamin Franklin and Washington Irving will be explored.
