Prerequisite: ACFI 200 with minimum grade of "B-" and ACFI 385 with minimum grade of "B-" and ECON 102; or waiver Financial institutions perform an essential function in facilitating the flow of funds from savers to users to the benefit of the global economy. As financial intermediaries, they must manage their risk to ensure the world's financial system remains stable. This course, therefore, discusses the role of commercial and investment banks, insurance companies and mutual and hedge funds in the flow of funds through the economy. How these financial intermediaries operate and manage their financial risks is then examined. Included in the discussion is the impact of their regulatory environments on their operations. Offered spring semester.
