This course will explore topics identified by the Foundations of Reading MTEL® (Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure) and other tests that measure knowledge related to reading and language development. MTEL® objectives will be emphasized, supported by content from the five areas of the Put Reading First Initiative: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. Teacher candidates may enroll in this course prior to being admitted to the Professional Education courses and professional courses. (Formerly ELED 320). Offered fall, spring, summer.
