This course provides theoretical and practical knowledge in using unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for collecting, processing and analyzing geospatial data. The main modules consist of 1) understanding the principles of structure from motion (SfM), global positioning systems (GPS), remote sensing and photogrammetry, 2) learning UAS data analysis workflow to generate products such as digital elevation models and orthomosaics, and 3) using UAS data for addressing issues in agriculture, hydrology, ecology and geomorphology. This course also reviews recent studies and explores emerging opportunities for UAS applications in geosciences and related disciplines. Offered spring semester.
