This course is designed for students with a strong interest in urban and regional planning and explores how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used to inform land use, zoning, and smart growth strategies. Through case studies and hands-on projects, students will apply GIS tools to analyze trends in population, employment, housing, and infrastructure. Emphasis is placed on using spatial data to support sustainable development, economic vitality, community diversity, and a strong sense of place. Students will use GIS to develop components of a sample master plan, integrating real-world data with planning theory..
