History of Western Childhood

Prerequisite: ENGL 102 or consent of instructor This course provides a historical overview of childhood in the Western world from classical antiquity to the present, highlighting the emergence of modern childhood. It emphasizes critical thinking and comparative discussion of beliefs about children and childhood, examining shifting attitudes toward parent-child relationships, work, schooling, play, adolescence, sexuality, emotional health and various other topics.
