Prerequisite: LASP 102 Spanish 151 is the first semester of the intermediate process toward the “5 Skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture.” Students participate in various communicative and learning tasks that allow them to develop the necessary vocabulary and linguistic skills to read, speak, and write about different aspects of Hispanic, Latinx, and US culture and society. Authentic materials that discuss diverse perspectives on concepts such as ethnicity, gender, privilege, race, and power are utilized throughout the semester. Overall, students communicate in the target language to demonstrate their comprehension of different aspects of the Spanish-speaking world and to draw comparisons between Hispanic/Latin American culture and their own. Offered fall and spring semesters.
