Prerequisite: Nine hours in behavioral studies In this course students will learn how to protect children and support families at risk for child abuse and neglect. The course will teach students how to conduct a risk assessment and engage families and children in effective services. Practice, policies and program design of various methods of intervention including family preservation, kinship and foster care, and adoption will be covered. Attention will be given to the relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence and child abuse. Ways of promoting healthy child and family development will also be addressed. Offered annually.
