This introductory course provides a comprehensive overview of geographic information systems (GIS), focusing on the fundamental concepts, tools and techniques used to analyze and visualize spatial data. Students will learn the principles of spatial thinking, data types, map projections and coordinate systems, while gaining hands-on experience with GIS software to create, manage and analyze geographic data. Through practical exercises and projects, students will develop essential skills in data collection, geospatial analysis and the presentation of spatial information. This course serves as the foundation for more advanced GIS studies and applications in a variety of fields. Offered fall and spring semesters.
