Intro Global Migration Studies

This interdisciplinary and collaborative course examines the broad concepts of migration and movement through an historical approach. This historical contextualization includes colonialism and the world system, providing the necessary background to study root causes for contemporary local and global human movements. Anthropological and sociological perspectives familiarize students with the impacts of the global north-south divide, world capitalism, globalization, conflicts and environmental sustainability issues on human displacements and movements. Politics, policies, aims of justice, and law enforcement will help understand the minoritized/vulnerabilized identities and inequalities among migrant groups. Offered fall semester.
